Thrilled and relieved...

Just a quick post to show you why I'm thrilled and relieved in equal measure!

My version of the Ann Randoll coverlet (started in Rhonda Pearce's workshop) is now a complete quilt top. I have to admit I'd been putting off the final sew-together and attachment of that last border - dreading that there might be "issues". All those hours of applique could have distorted the measurements - but amazingly it went together just fine...can't quite believe it really...

I've hung it for photos using pants hangers - works well as a temporary measure for photos.
It is about 210 cm square ( 83 inches square).

Now to consider the quilting. I am working on my hand quilting technique to try to relieve hand /wrist pain - trying different methods and tools but am not confident I can tackle a whole quilt. So I'm thinking I may machine stitch the long seams ( the less noticeable parts) and add some hand quilting after. I do much prefer the look and feel of hand quilting but we do what we can ...

  3. congratulations on the finish!! it looks beautiful. I to am having hand problems with quilting and do not know how much longer I will be able to do it. I am struggling to finish the quilt that is on the frame now and I do think that the next on the frame will take a long time to quilt if my thumb stays the same.

  5. Oh my word, it's fabulous. I used a combination of machine and hand in my big medallion quilt and it worked out perfectly.

  6. This is an amazing quilt! What a lot of work! Beautiful design and colors too! Quilting is always the challenging part for me. I like machine quilting but I usually do easy things. I don't like stitch in the ditch but echo quilting is nice. It gives texture and is easy to do without having to mark the quilt. I like your idea of a combination. Can't wait to see it all the way complete.

  13. A very impressive quilt. Congratulations on getting the top together as it is a large quilt. Hand quilting would definitely enhance this quilt but it does make the hands suffer. There are girls in the Philippines that can work magic with their hands!

  30. Hello,
As to your hand quilting problem, have you ever tried stab stitching? There is absolutely no pain on the wrists or fingers. I just love it! Especially with a double pointed needle.

  38. Oh Hilda! Your version of the Ann Randoll coverlet is just so beautiful, congratulations!!! You must have been very relieved when it went together so well. My eyes keep going to all those dog tooth borders because I know how tricky they are to get right (memories of the Morrell).
