My version of the Ann Randoll coverlet (started in Rhonda Pearce's workshop) is now a complete quilt top. I have to admit I'd been putting off the final sew-together and attachment of that last border - dreading that there might be "issues". All those hours of applique could have distorted the measurements - but amazingly it went together just fine...can't quite believe it really...
I've hung it for photos using pants hangers - works well as a temporary measure for photos.
It is about 210 cm square ( 83 inches square).
Now to consider the quilting. I am working on my hand quilting technique to try to relieve hand /wrist pain - trying different methods and tools but am not confident I can tackle a whole quilt. So I'm thinking I may machine stitch the long seams ( the less noticeable parts) and add some hand quilting after. I do much prefer the look and feel of hand quilting but we do what we can ...
Many hours and months of work come to fruition. Beautiful finish. You can be very proud.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!! It is simply AMAZING! Stunning! Not one I would do thank you. Way beyond my abilities. Great work.
ReplyDeletecongratulations on the finish!! it looks beautiful. I to am having hand problems with quilting and do not know how much longer I will be able to do it. I am struggling to finish the quilt that is on the frame now and I do think that the next on the frame will take a long time to quilt if my thumb stays the same.
ReplyDeleteIt is absolutely magnificent. No wonder you are thrilled, it is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh my word, it's fabulous. I used a combination of machine and hand in my big medallion quilt and it worked out perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing quilt! What a lot of work! Beautiful design and colors too! Quilting is always the challenging part for me. I like machine quilting but I usually do easy things. I don't like stitch in the ditch but echo quilting is nice. It gives texture and is easy to do without having to mark the quilt. I like your idea of a combination. Can't wait to see it all the way complete.
ReplyDeleteHilda,he is GORGEOUS !!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Hilda. And so Flat!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful. I do wonder if you girls down under ever sleep.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations, such a beautiful finish.
ReplyDeleteA very impressive quilt. Congratulations on getting the top together as it is a large quilt. Hand quilting would definitely enhance this quilt but it does make the hands suffer. There are girls in the Philippines that can work magic with their hands!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, its absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh what a masterpiece! :) I wear a wrist brace when quilting ...if I don't I suffer later on so I am trying to make a habit of it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Congrats on the finish and good luck with the quilting.

ReplyDeleteSimply breathtaking! I too have resorted to a little machine quilting here and there to save on my wrists and as long as you hand quilt where it shows, I think you will get the look (and the feel) you desire. It is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteA gorgeous heirloom you have made. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteAs to your hand quilting problem, have you ever tried stab stitching? There is absolutely no pain on the wrists or fingers. I just love it! Especially with a double pointed needle.
Your quilt is wonderful and very beautiful. Congrats on the finish!
Wow Hilda it looks fabulous!! The final border is wonderful! I like handquilting too - very much. I hope you can find a way to do it that doesn't hurt! Your machine quilting is always incredible too.
ReplyDeleteAs always, I am in awe of your work. Good luck on the quilting. May I suggest work in small blocks of time. It will get done.

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazing! It is sooo beautiful! Congratulations on this wonderful finish! I agree with you on the handquilting, but a combination of hand- and machine quilting would be beautiful too.
ReplyDeleteOh Hilda! Your version of the Ann Randoll coverlet is just so beautiful, congratulations!!! You must have been very relieved when it went together so well. My eyes keep going to all those dog tooth borders because I know how tricky they are to get right (memories of the Morrell).
ReplyDeleteSo lovely. What a wonderful finish. Good luck with the quilting. I too am quilting less by hand as I have issues with my writes and thumb. But when I can it is so worth it!
ReplyDeleteHow fabulous!! So glad it all went together well for you (not that I doubted it would!). Your work is beautiful. Happy quilting now!
ReplyDeleteA fabulous quilt and I love your Civil War Bride in reds too. Can't wait to see more progress.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt! Your workmanship is amazing. Enjoy every stitch of hand-quilting it, hopefully, pain-free.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful quilt! I think you have a good plan to mis the quilting. I also love your red CWB block.
ReplyDeleteHilda this is absolutely gorgeous! A large quilt done so quickly, you make me feel so slow! I like your solution for quilting it also. I remind my self to stretch my hands and take breaks also. You deserve to do several happy dances and shout with glee!
ReplyDeleteStunning! I have enjoyed following your progress on this beautiful and impressive piece of art!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations - this quilt will be such a treasure!
Your quilt is so beautiful it almost doesn't look real. I think your idea of machine quilting part of the quilt and hand quilting some is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteDear Hilda I have been in 3 times to day to have a look at this stunning quilt I love the clam shells; and then I lost 40 mins going back through some of your lovely blog, I just love the colours you work in. Cheers Glenda
